Baseballer named hitter of the week
Junior outfielder David Widaski has been recognized as the American Southwest Conference (ASC) East division hitter of the week for helping propel the Comets to their best-ever start.
In two games against Howard Payne, Widaski went 5-for-6, tallying four RBIs and scoring three runs.
The wins over Howard Payne came as a part of a season-high eight game winning streak for the Comets.
“He’s the type of guy that can get on a hot streak and he did. We hope that can continue,” Head Coach Shane Shewmake said. “When he’s hot, he’s one of the best.”
Tennis player nets conference honor
Senior tennis player Kevin Durten was selected as the ASC East division player of the week March 9.
UTD’s No. 1 seed, Durten went undefeated in two singles and two doubles matches against LeTourneau and McMurry, helping the Comets with both contests.
“He’s been nothing but a positive influence. The other guys feed off him and what he can do,” Head Coach Jeremy Morse said. “He’ll go far individually.”
Jones included on All-Academic squad
Sophomore guard Kia Jones has been named to the ASC Academic All-Conference basketball team.
Jones averaged 9.9 points per game for the Comets while maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA.
“She’s the typical student-athlete here at UTD,” Head Coach Rachelle Leonard said. “She can get it done in the classroom and on the court.”
