A 26-year-old man was found dead in a Phase 7 Waterview Park apartment on April 5 – less than one day after UTD police issued the man a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to UTD officials.
UTD and Richardson police officers and EMS personnel arrived at the apartment at approximately 10 a.m. where they found Shawn Sultemeier unconscious, according to UTD News & Information Director Jon Senderling. Sultemeier of Dripping Springs, Texas, was visiting an occupant of the apartment and is not a current UTD student. He was declared dead on the scene, Senderling said.
UTD police had been to the apartment the night before in response to a tip of possible drug activity. Upon searching the apartment, UTD police found a pipe and marijuana residue and issued Sultemeier a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Senderling.
An autopsy is pending with the Collin County Medical Examiner. William Rohr, Collin county medical examiner, said his office is awaiting toxicology reports, but initial examinations revealed no visible signs of trauma to the body. Results from the autopsy are expected within two weeks.
