Partisan and Ideological Organizations
College Democrats at UTD is a student-run political organization that aims to promote progressive ideals that align with the Democratic Party. This past year, College Democrats has hosted events inviting political figures like former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke and incoming Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate James Talarico. Turning Point USA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college and university campuses. The chapter at UTD describes itself with the mission statement “Identify, educate, train, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government.” TPUSA frequently tables at the Plinth and hosts speaker events inviting people like Regional Coordinator for Students for Life Megan Roos. The Red Rose Collective, formerly known as UTD’s Young Democratic Socialists of America, is a student activist left-wing organization that focuses on anti-capitalism advocacy, queer liberation and mutual aid. Comets for Better Transit is a political and special interest advocacy organization dedicated to improving pedestrian, bike and public transit around UTD campus. The organization has hosted town hall meetings with Mayor Amir Omar, provides internship opportunities and has even given members the chance to speak at board meetings. South Asian American Voter Empowerment is an organization dedicated to accomplishing massive voter turnout and voter participation for the South Asian diaspora. SAAVE states they “train students to participate in political processes, give resources to those pursuing political careers, and provide a safe space for students to discuss issues.” SAAVE frequently hosts events like “Mithai Moments” and “Chai Chats.” You can follow them on Instagram @saaveutd.

Texas Rising is a nonpartisan movement to facilitate greater student awareness on legislation that impacts students’ daily lives. Texas Rising aims to provide students with opportunities to get them directly involved in policymaking alongside building coalitions to make a difference for marginalized communities.
