Correction: A pervious version of the article misstated the office impacted by the fire. The office impacted was 1.606.
On May 31, a fire in a first-floor office of the Edith O’Donnell Arts & Technology Building was largely extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system before firefighters arrived, according to a City of Richardson Fire Department incident report obtained by The Mercury. No injuries were reported, and the fire did not spread beyond the office where it originated.
Associate Director of Emergency Management and Fire Marshal Tiffany Parker confirmed to The Mercury that the fire occurred in ATC 1.606.
The fire was reported around 7:11 p.m., and Richardson firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:27 p.m. They found light smoke in a hallway and an activated sprinkler in a first-floor office. Firefighters discovered a burning computer monitor partially shielded from the sprinkler by an overhead cabinet. They removed the cabinet and the sprinkler extinguished the remaining fire, according to the report.
After the fire was extinguished, firefighters used positive-pressure ventilation to clear smoke from the building.
The report listed the cause of the fire as undetermined.
The Mercury has reached out to administrative officials and will update this article as information becomes available.
