Eric Martinez, a neuroscience sophomore, practiced on April 5 in the Activity Center. The club headed to San Antonio the following day for the national competition, where they didn’t place, but had lifters break personal records. Powerlifting is in its third year as a club at UTD and has seen significant growth since its inception in 2014. Shreena Bhakta is in her first season at UTD. Bhakta is completely deaf in one ear and partially deaf in the other, making her the only golfer who is deaf at UTD. Alfredo Kaegi, a left wing and forward, practices on the UTD soccer field on March 21 as he works on rehab following knee surgery. Kaegi came to UTD to earn his degree after playing soccer for semi-pro teams in France for eight months. He played his first season at UTD this past fall, which brought him recognition on the playing field  as he won multiple awards. The Comets lost in a 79-63 decision, ending their tournament and their 12 game win streak, a school record. Lone Star Assassins and Deadly Kennedys, both of which have UTD alumni on their rosters, battle during a bout on Feb. 11 at Thunderbird Roller Rink in Plano. The Assassination City Roller Derby is made up of four home teams and a travelling all-star team. The regular season, which runs from February through July, consists of a double round-robin that sees the four home teams competing in six monthly doubleheaders leading up to their seeded championship tournament held in August.
