UTD hires assistant Athletic Director
Albert Buckles has been named the assistant director for external affairs for UTD, Athletic Director Chris Gage announced June 15.
Buckles, a graduate and varsity basketball player at SIU-Edwardsville, earned his master’s of sports science from the U.S. Sports Academy in 2003.
“Albert is a welcome and important addition to our department,” Gage said in a press release.
He will work to cultivate relationships with community businesses, alumni and other supporters, Gage said.
Comet Volleyball adds one to staff
Zachary Villarreal has been appointed assistant coach for the newly-formed UTD women’s volleyball team.
Villarreal joins Head Coach Marci Sanders, with whom he coached at Angelo State for four seasons.
“Zach has always been a student of the game,” Sanders said in a June 15 UTD press release.
“He was eager to get back into the collegiate coaching ranks, and I believe he will be a valuable addition to our program,” Sanders said.
Rec sports to host 3-on-3 tournament
UTD recreational sports will hold a 3-on-3 basketball tournament July 13-14.
Registration extends now through July 7 in the Activity Center.
“It’s really the first time we’ve done something over the summer, but with such a good turnout this year for intramurals we thought we’d extend into the summer,” Coordinator of Intramurals and Club Sports Steve Anderson said.
