The baseball team edged out Mississippi College 2-1 in a three-game series on April 5-6 but lost 9-8 to Texas Wesleyan University on April 9 in a non-conference game.

The Comets (17-18 overall, 8-7 ASC) have won two games out of the last four and are currently fourth in the ASC East Division, closely followed by East Texas Bapist University.

After dropping the first game 7-3 against Mississippi, Sophomore Calvin Campbell and Tyler Dauer dominated on the mound to give the Comets 3-2 and 6-2 wins.

Campbell only gave up three hits in the seven-inning start, and the Comets pulled through to take the second game of the series 3-2, thanks to a 2-RBI double from senior Jake Wyand.

Dauer had a no-hitter going in the third game of the series with UTD up 4-0 in the sixth. His day at the mound came to an end after Mississippi finally cracked him with three hits and an error in the seventh inning.

Senior Daniel Saxon, freshman Timothy Cole, sophomore Pierce Fly and Wyand each finished the game with two hits while the Comets finished with a total of 14 hits.

In the game against Texas Wesleyan, the Comets racked up five runs in the third inning to go up 5-0. Up 8-2 going into the eighth inning, Texas Wesleyan rallied back for seven runs in the eighth to snatch the victory 9-8. Junior Jason Fink picked up his fourth loss of the season pitching two innings.

The Comets took on Southwestern in a non-conference doubleheader on April 13 at home. They will host East Texas Baptist University in a final three-game conference series on April 19-20 to close out the regular season.

UTD is trying to qualify for the ASC Championship Tournament for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. If the Comets win against East Texas Baptist, they will clinch the final playoff spot and make it their fifth straight appearance.
